Weapons call leads to school lockdowns in Woodstock

Two schools in Woodstock briefly went into lockdown Friday after two people with a weapon were spotted nearby.

Woodstock police received the call about the males in the area of Cromwell Street between Berwick Street and Clarke Street North with an unspecified weapon around 10:30 a.m.

Officers flooded the area and Huron Park Secondary School and Roch Carrier French Immersion school were locked down out of an abundance of caution.

"Schools in the area were notified and entered into lockdown for precautionary reasons, however the schools were unrelated to the call. There is no concern for public safety," police said.

Two people were taken into custody, but police later said that no charges would be laid, as the two males were returning from a hunting trip. They have both been released.
