Frequent lotto plays pay off for two Londoners

A pair of Londoners who regularly try their luck with the lottery are now enjoying separate five and six figure wins.

Diane Diamond of London claimed $75,000 with an Instant Fruit Explosion ticket, while Won Ryu is getting $500,000 after matching all five main numbers on a Daily Grand ticket.

Diamond said she plays often, usually opting for the Instant Crossword or Instant Bingo tickets, but on a whim decided to try out the new Fruit Explosion game.

"The more I checked [the ticket], the louder I got." Diamond said while collecting her winnings recently at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

She plans to share her winnings with her daughter and grandchildren.

Ryu, who plays the lottery weekly, calls the Daily Grand his favourite game.

He took the second prize of $25,000 a year for life in the October 14 draw, but opted to take the six-figure lump sum instead of the lifetime payout.

The 41-year-old father said he did his best to stay calm after discovering his win and quickly called his wife.

"She started screaming in celebration and then we called our parents to tell them," said Ryu.

Ryu, who has only been in Canada for three years, plans to use his winnings to buy a new house for his family.

"I am so humbled to know this win will help my family settle and build a life in Canada," Ryu said.
