Armed robbery leads to charges

A London man is facing charges after an armed robbery in the downtown core.

According to London police, around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, a man followed a group of people into an apartment building with a secured entrance on Dundas Street near William Street.

"The suspect male entered an apartment inside of the building, and allegedly brandished a firearm," police said.

Police added that the man tried to rob the man who lived there, but there was a fight, and the suspect took off.

Investigators obtained video surveillance footage, which police say showed the suspect was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

A suspect was identified and arrested nearby. No firearm was recovered.

The victim of the robbery suffered minor injuries, police said.

A 36-year-old London man is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, carrying a concealed weapon, unlawfully being in a dwelling house, pointing a firearm, and breaching probation.
