Man seriously hurt in two-vehicle crash in east London

A two-vehicle crash that took out a hydro pole in east London has sent one man to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency crews were called after the vehicles collided on Highbury Avenue, south of Hamilton Road around 10 a.m. on Thursday. One of the vehicles ended up crashing into a hydro pole, causing a power outage in the area.

Firefighters had to cut one of the drivers from the wreckage of an overturned vehicle. He was taken to hospital with what were originally described as "life-threatening" injuries. Police later said the man's injuries were no longer considered critical, but he remained in hospital in serious condition.

Highbury Avenue is closed to southbound traffic while crews work to remove debris and repair the damaged utility pole. There is no word on when the lanes will reopen.

The investigation is in its early stages, police said.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
