UPDATE: Two vehicle crash closes westbound 401 in London

The westbound lanes of the 401 in London have reopened after provincial police closed a large stretch of the highway Thursday evening due to a serious two-vehicle crash.

The collision happened at around 5 p.m. between Exeter Road and Wellington Road Middlesex OPP say.

Officers assisted with the road closure between Highbury Avenue and Wellington Road. At around 7:20 p.m., the area had been cleared and reopened to traffic.

Officials with the London Fire Department confirmed they did not have to extricate anyone from either vehicle involved and said two people were taken to hospital.

Thankfully, the OPP said the injuries of one the drivers were minor. The other driver's condition is unknown, however no reports of life-threatening injuries have been made.

As a result of the closure, traffic was at a stand-still for most of the early evening while emergency crews worked to clear the area.

No other details on the cause of the crash have been released.
