A dozen new cases of COVID-19 were reported Friday by the Middlesex London Health Unit, pushing the number of active cases in the community back above 100.
There has now been a total of 14,533 confirmed cases in the London area since the start of the pandemic. There have also been 14,185 cases that are considered to be resolved. As of Friday, there are 104 active cases in the community.
No deaths were reported Friday, leaving the COVID-19 death toll in London and Middlesex County at 246.
The London Health Sciences Centre says it is caring for five or fewer patients with COVID-19. The hospital uses the "five or fewer" figure when the number of patients get low enough that giving an exact number might compromise patient privacy.
Wilberforce Public School in Lucan is the only local facility dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19. There are 11 cases linked to the school. The Thames Valley District School Board announced Friday that the school, which switched to online learning for all students on November 1 due to the number of cases, will re-open on Monday.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, 32 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday. That brings Southwestern Public Health’s total number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic to 4,779. No deaths were reported Friday. There are 121 active cases in the two counties.
Ontario reported 563 new cases on Friday, marking the first time in nearly a month that more than 500 new cases were reported in a single day. The seven-day average of new cases is now at 404.
Five deaths were reported, bringing Ontario's COVID-19 death toll to 9,896.
