The London Fire Department's hazmat team and OPP are investigating after a potentially hazardous substance was found on the side of the 401 just outside of the city.
According to Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk, just after 1 p.m. Friday, crews were called to an area of the eastbound 401 near Colonel Talbot Road North after an unknown substance was located.
Sanchuk was unable to provide details on what the substance looked like or what it could possibly be, but said hazmat workers were on scene investigating which caused some traffic delays along the highway.
"If you are travelling on the 401 you can anticipate delays as the highway has been put down to one lane," Sanchuk said. "Please have patience with us while we continue to investigate this substance."
At around 3:30 p.m., London fire officials confirmed some crews had began to clear the area as a commercial clean up company was called to the scene.
No other details have been provided.
