Half a dozen new cases of COVID-19 have been identified at three schools in St. Thomas and Aylmer.
The Thames Valley District School Board confirmed late Sunday night three infections at John Wise Public, two new cases at Pierre Elliott Trudeau French Immersion, and one case at East Elgin Secondary.
There are now five active cases at Pierre Elliott Trudeau French Immersion. The St. Thomas school has been dealing with an outbreak of the virus since last Thursday.
Southwestern Public Health is following up with those considered to be close contacts of the infected individuals.
"If you do not receive a letter from Thames Valley indicating the public health unit has identified your child as a close contact, your child is not considered to be at risk," the school board said in a statement. "Only those staff and students who have been identified as a close contact will be notified and advised to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of ten days."
All three schools remain open.
COVID-19 cases within schools across the region have been increasing over the past two weeks. There are currently 57 active cases at 30 schools within the Thames Valley District School Board and 14 active cases at nine schools within the London District Catholic School Board.
