Residents in Mount Brydges are being warned about a possible cougar sighting in the area over the weekend.

Strathroy-Caradoc police were called after a suspected big cat was spotted in the northern portion of the community on Sunday.

"It cannot be confirmed that what was seen was a cougar, however, the police and the Ministry of Natural Resources want the public to be aware," police said in a statement.

The ministry is following up on the reported sighting and is asking anyone who may have seen a similar animal in the area to contact them at mnrs.ayl@ontario.ca.
