UPDATE: Two charged in downtown stabbing

A stabbing near downtown London early Monday morning has left a man in hospital and two people facing charges.

London police were called to Oxford Street west of Richmond Street about a possible stabbing around 5:30 a.m.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man suffering from a life threatening stab wound. He was taken to hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition.

An adult man was arrested. Police announced on Monday afternoon that Tyrone Morgan, 34, of London, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. A second person, 28-year-old Zheendar Hashim of Kitchener, has been charged with one count of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

"Police do not believe that this was a random incident and there is no ongoing risk to public safety," police said.

Approximately ten police cruisers and the forensic identification van remained on scene around 9 a.m. The front entrance to a highrise at 205 Oxford Street had been cordoned off with yellow police tape and blood stained clothing could be seen laying in the westbound lanes of the street.
