New rapid COVID-19 testing facility to open in London

A new COVID-19 testing facility catering to school-aged kids and health care workers will open in London in the new year.

The Thames Valley Family Health Team, which currently operates the city's Carling COVID-19 Assessment Centre, announced the Rapid Molecular Testing site will open at the Springbank Medical Centre at 460 Springbank Drive on January 5.

The location will provide test results within 15 minutes for health care workers in primary care and community care settings and children in Kindergarten to Grade 12 who require a negative test in order to return to work or school.

"This new testing site will help to reduce the wait times for testing and results in London and surrounding area and will build capacity within our local health care system," Thames Valley Family Health said.

Test results will be printed at the end of each appointment and will not be available through the Ontario COVID-19 test results portal, by email or phone afterward. All positive tests will be reported to the Middlesex London Health Unit.

Appointments at the new site will be available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

As of 7 p.m. January 4, appointment booking will open at www.covidtestinglm.ca. Only one day's worth of appointments will be released at a time with new blocks opening up each night at 7 p.m.

A limited number of appointments will be reserved each day for those without internet access who call 226-236-6295.
