COVID-19 has claimed two more lives in London and Middlesex County.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported on Wednesday the deaths of a man in his 70s and a woman in her 90s. Their deaths bring to 48 the number of deaths linked to the virus in the London area in 2022. Five deaths were reported by the health unit on Tuesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 307 area residents have lost their lives to the virus.
The London Health Sciences Centre said it has 136 patients with COVID-19, down by 13 from Tuesday. Of those, 84 are in hospital because of COVID-19, while the rest are there for other reasons but have tested positive. The number of patients with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit was down by one from Tuesday, at 26.
The health unit reported 190 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. However, the figure is considered to be an undercount of the actual number of cases due to limitations on who is eligible for PCR testing.
Ontario reported 2,939 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals across the province. Of those, 555 are in intensive care. Both figures represent a decrease from the previous day's report. According to Health Minister Christine Elliott, 56 per cent of the 2,939 patients are in hospital because of COVID-19, while 46 per cent are in hospital for treatment of other ailments but have tested positive for COVID-19.
