UPDATE: Drunk driving charges laid in fatal hit and run

London police are alleging that the driver involved in a hit and run that killed a pedestrian Tuesday night was drunk behind the wheel.

Police announced charges against David Charles MacMicken, 50, of London on Thursday morning. He's charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing death exceeding blood alcohol concentration, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.

The charges stem from an incident in west London on Tuesday night. Emergency crews were called to the area of Oxford Street West near Laurel Street around 11 p.m.  When they arrived, they found a male pedestrian with serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

Officers were given a description of the vehicle that hit the man, and their investigation determined that the pedestrian had been hit near Oxford and Hyde Park Road.

A suspect was arrested shortly after midnight.

The name of the victim is not being released until next of kin can be notified.

MacMicken appeared in court on Wednesday and will return on March 9.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
