With a mix of freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow expected to fall Thursday, school have been closed and buses cancelled in the London-area.
School buses for London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, Elgin County, and the Red Zone have been cancelled for the day, according to MyBigYellowBus.ca. To see the full list of cancellations click here.
The bus cancellations come as temperatures are forecast to drop back below freezing, changing rain to freezing rain and ice pellets, and then snow. Environment Canada has a winter storm warning in effect for much of southwestern Ontario. As much as 5 mm of ice could accumulate and 20cm of snow could fall on the region by Friday morning, the weather agency has warned.
The London District Catholic school board has tweeted that all schools within the board will be closed for the day.
"Students are encouraged to take the opportunity to complete current work or assignments; or prepare for upcoming assignments, quizzes or tests," the board said in a tweet.
The Thames Valley District School Board has also closed all schools and transitioned students to online learning for the day.
