Police looking for witnesses to downtown shooting

London police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a disturbance downtown that left a man with a gunshot wound to come forward.

Police were called about a disturbance in the area of Richmond and Mill streets around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. When officers arrived they found nothing suspicious and no one suffering any injuries.

Shortly after the 911 call, police were notified that a person had gone to hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound. That individual has since been treated and released.

Yellow police tape was used to block off a section of the sidewalk along Richmond just south of Piccadilly Street for several hours Thursday morning. Several police cruisers were also parked in the area.

No one has been taken into custody in relation to the incident. Despite that, police believe there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Investigators with the police major crime section continue to investigate. They are asking anyone who may have been in the area around the time or who has video or dashcam footage of the disturbance to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

This is the second incident involving a gun downtown this week. On Tuesday morning, officers were called to the area of Richmond and Kent streets where they found evidence a firearm had been fired. No injuries were reported and charges have been laid against four people in relation to that incident.
