Museum London to offer multilingual tours

In an effort to help newcomers to Canada meet new people and build a stronger connection with their new community, Museum London will be offering multilingual tours of its exhibitions later this week.

The downtown museum has announced a Newcomer Connection event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. As part of the free, family-friendly event, tours of the museum's exhibits will be conducted in four languages - Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, and Farsi.

"Museum London recognizes the city’s evolving demographics, the importance of creating new relationships, and staying relevant with new Londoners," the museum said in a statement. This is an event for people to get together, meet other newcomers, and meet ESL speakers who are new or already have experience living in London."

The event marks the first time the museum has offered the tours in multiple languages. The idea came about after museum officials reached out to several settlement agencies in London to determine how it could help be a part of the process of welcoming newcomers to London.

In addition to the multilingual tours, the event will include a live performance of classical Indian dancing by Priyanka Tope and complimentary snacks and drinks. Those in attendance will also be given a gift bag with art activities, art supplies, a tote bag designed by local artist Amsa Yaro, and a postcard with international postage.

As space for the event is limited, people interested in attending are asked to register in advance by clicking here.
