Charges have been laid against four men after St. Thomas police seized $25,000 worth of stolen property.
A lengthy investigation by the police street crime and property crime units culminated Tuesday, with officers searching a home they claim was a "hot spot for criminal activity" on Princess Avenue near the downtown.
Inside, police discovered drugs, weapons and the thousands of dollars worth of stolen property, which included numerous bicycles, tools, and a lawn mower.
Four men, ranging in age from 26 to 55, were arrested. They are charged with possession of property obtained by crime and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Two of the men face additional charges of possession of drugs and possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
“We anticipate that this action will send a strong message to the several individuals now charged with numerous criminal offences, and to those that want to continue victimizing our community through property crime offences. We will hold you accountable," said Deputy Chief Marc Roskamp.
He also thanked the community for its help in piecing together the requisite information needed to legally justify police actions in the case.
"We feel it is important that the community knows, your support on the many social media feeds was well-noted, and our attention has been intently focused on consistently gathering intelligence and piecing together this investigation for weeks," said Roskamp.
Police are now working to find the rightful owners of the stolen property.
