An Ingersoll resident is out $80,000 after falling victim to a cryptocurrency scam.
Oxford OPP were called to a home on John Street for the reported fraud on Wednesday morning.
According to investigators, the resident began investing in Bitcoin with an individual they met through a social media messenger site. The resident lost $80,000 before realizing it was a scam.
Police are using the incident as a reminder to the public to be vigilant and use caution when receiving unsolicited responses and requests.
"Frauds can occur many ways," police said. "If it feels wrong, it usually is."
