Weapons charges laid after 8 hour standoff in Tillsonburg

A 34-year-old Tillsonburg man is facing charges after an eight hour standoff with police on Sunday.

Oxford OPP were called about a disturbance at a home on Ridout Street around 12:30 a.m.

No specifics about the incident have been released, but police did have to close a section of the street between Bidwell and Rolph streets while investigators worked to resolve the situation.

A man was arrested and the road reopened around 9 a.m.

Police have since announced a 34-year-old Tillsonburg man has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing in Woodstock court on Tuesday.
