St. Thomas homeowner threatened by man erecting tent on property

Charges have been laid after a St. Thomas homeowner was confronted by a stick-wielding man who was fixing to live on his property without permission.

The incident began when the homeowner went to investigate smoke coming from a section of his wooded lot on Hill Street on Thursday. The homeowner found a man had set-up a tent and lit a fire on his property.

The man swung a large stick at the homeowner's head and proceeded to follow him making threats to kill him and burn down his house.

St. Thomas police were called and arrested a suspect a short distance away.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and uttering threats to damage property. The man has since been released from custody with a future court date.
