Discovery of gun silencer leads to firearm seizure, arrest of Londoner

The interception of a prohibited gun attachment at a Vancouver airport that led to the seizure of multiple firearms and drugs from a London home has one man facing charges.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers working at the Vancouver International Airport Air Cargo Operation found the parcel with a solvent trap in late July. Solvent traps are a gun barrel attachment that can be used to silence or suppress the sound of a firearm. They are prohibited in Canada.

RCMP launched an investigation into the discovery and on August 3 raided a home in London. A large quantity of cannabis and cannabis products, 10 firearms, and the solvent trap were seized at the home.

Kevin Brooks of London was arrested and charged with possession of prohibited goods, possession of a prohibited device, possession of drugs for trafficking, importing a prohibited device into Canada, and non-compliance with the Customs Act.

"This investigation, conducted jointly with the CBSA, serves as a great example of how a coordinated enforcement effort can contribute to safer communities and disrupt illegal activity, keeping illicit drugs and weapons off our streets," said RCMP Inspector Islam Issa, the district commander of transnational serious and organized crime for O Division.

The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.
