Buildings evacuated due to downtown gas leak

Multiple downtown buildings were evacuated Friday due to a natural gas leak.

Emergency crews were called to 371 Queens Ave. after a gas line was severed around 11 a.m.

Queens Avenue between Waterloo and Colborne streets and Waterloo Street between Dundas Street and Dufferin Avenue were closed.

Buildings within a two block radius of the gas leak were  evacuated "out of an abundance of caution." The evacuation zone included buildings located on Princess Avenue to the north, Maitland Street to the east, King Street to the south, and Wellington Street to the west.

Just before 4 p.m. Friday, the city announced that all residents were able to return to their homes.
