One arrested after investigation in Southwold

Provincial police say they have taken an individual into custody following an investigation southeast of Shedden early Monday morning.

Police warned residents about an increased police presence in the area of Fingal Line between Oneida Road and Union Road in a tweet issued just after 7:30 a.m.

Officers were called to a "disturbance" at around 8 p.m. Sunday on Fingal Line in Southwold Township, Elgin OPP said. The area was closed all Monday morning and into the afternoon as a result.

Just after 2:30 p.m., police arrested a person without incident. No other details about the individual or the investigation have been released.

"There never was a threat to public safety, and more details pertaining to the investigation will be released once they become available," OPP said in a statement.

Officers have since reopened the area and are thanking the public for their cooperation.
