Aylmer man accused of impaired driving in solo-vehicle crash

An Aylmer man was handed several impaired driving-related charges after police responded to a single-vehicle crash over the weekend.

According to Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called about the crash on Talbot Line in Central Elgin at around 12:35 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived, they located the crashed passenger vehicle and a lone occupant, a 45-year-old man from Aylmer.

As a result of an investigation, police have charged the man with operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus and having care or control of a vehicle with unsealed liquor.

Police say the accused suffered non-life threatening injuries from the crash. He was subsequently dealt a 90-day licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The man is scheduled to make a court appearance in St. Thomas on May 9.
