Disturbances at St. Thomas hospital lead to separate arrests

St. Thomas police have laid charges against two 21-year-old men they say acted "combative" towards officers and hospital staff in separate incidents.

Both incidents occurred on Tuesday at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Police were initially called to the facility for reports of an assault, according to a statement from the St. Thomas Police Service (STPS).

When they arrived at the scene, officers assisted security guards in arresting a man who had allegedly "become aggressive and combative with hospital staff upon discharge."

The accused is charged with causing a disturbance, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats. He was taken to Police Headquarters and later released on an undertaking.

On the same day, STPS was called again to help hospital staff escort out another 21-year-old man who had been discharged from their care.

Police said the man was aggressive toward one of their officers, and as a result, has been charged with uttering threats.

The second suspect was also transported to the local police station and held for court.

A spokesperson from STPS confirmed that the two 21-year-olds were not known to one another and the incidents were "completely unrelated."
