Several homes in the city's east end were evacuated Tuesday afternoon while London firefighters monitored the scene of a gas leak.
Sometime around 3 p.m., fire crews responded to a natural gas leak in the area of Oxford Street East and Mornington Avenue.
Firefighters initially opted to keep an eye on readings at neighbouring properties while the gas naturally ventilated into the atmosphere.
A short time later, crews deemed it necessary to have residents evacuate the buildings and homes adjacent to where the leak was coming from as a precaution.
Enbridge Gas has been called in to assist while the gas continues to ventilate naturally.
Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the westbound lanes of Oxford Street, west of Highbury Avenue for the time being.
Enbridge officials said repairs plans to stop the leak are underway.
