Drivers will have one less option to get downtown this week.
Starting Monday, Blackfriars Bridge will be temporarily closed to all vehicles.
The week-long closure is to allow crews to finish installing accent lighting on the historic bridge. Installation of the lights began last fall. The lights profile the bridge's bowstring arch trusses and are operational at night through the winter and spring.
Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge over Thames River during the work.
The bridge will reopen to vehicles on Friday.
The temporary closure to vehicular traffic comes as city politicians get ready to again debate the idea of either keeping eastbound traffic on the bridge year-round or permanently banning vehicles. Earlier this month, the civic works committee voted 4-1 to allow eastbound vehicles to continue to use the bridge.
The issue goes to full council on Tuesday.
