Unauthorized sex aids seized; may pose serious health risks

A number of unauthorized sexual enhancement products have been seized from stores in London, due to potential health hazards.

The sex aids were sold at two Hasty Market locations in the city, but seizures have occurred across the country.

Health Canada has advised that the affected products are unauthorized, meaning they haven't been tested for safety, effectiveness, or quality. The health agency warned that health dangers could result from ingredients not listed on the label or a dangerous combination of ingredients.

One of the ingredients found in several products is tadalafil, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. When combined with caffeine, tadalafil may increase the risk of serious adverse reactions, including, but not limited to heart attack, stroke, blood pressure changes, abnormal or irregular heartbeat, headaches, and dizziness.

Health Canada has recommended that anyone using the affected products stop doing so immediately and consult a doctor if there are any health concerns.

A full list of the affected sexual enhancement products can be found at the Health Canada website.
