Showers and isolated thunderstorms continue to affect much of southwestern Ontario including the London area.
Environment Canada issued both a rainfall warning and a special weather statement Sunday afternoon lasting into the evening.
The weather agency warned that the City of London, as well as Middlesex, Oxford, and southern Perth Counties, could see 30 to 50 mm of rain. Some areas could see as much as 100 mm accumulate.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) does not expect significant widespread flooding, but localized flooding is possible in areas that receive heavier and higher rain amounts.
The agency has warned that it is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. People are also reminded to keep kids and pets away from waterways, as banks may be slippery and, when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious threat.
The UTRCA could operate flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to reduce any downstream flooding.
