London police say charges have been laid against a man who had allegedly been seen in possession of an illegal firearm downtown last Saturday.
According to investigators, officers responded to a disturbance at around 12:40 a.m. on July 29 in the area of Richmond and John streets.
Through an investigation, officers learned a security guard had observed the man involved in the incident with a black handgun which is when they called police.
A description of the man was given to police, and he was located a short distance away by members of the London Police Service Emergency Response Unit and arrested.
Officers performed a search of the accused and the surrounding area and a loaded firearm was located, police said.
No injuries were reported.
A 22-year-old London man has since been charged with:
Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Carrying a concealed weapon.
Possession of a loaded/unloaded regulated firearm.
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.
Knowingly being in possession of prohibited ammunition
Two counts of knowingly being in possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or weapon.
The accused was taken into the police custody where he remains. He was scheduled to make a court appearance on Wednesday.
