Update: Search ends for pair last seen on floating device on Lake Erie

Officers have wrapped up the search for two people last seen on an inflatable floating device on Lake Erie near Long Point on Tuesday.

At around 11:40 a.m. on August 8, officers of the Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment responded to a report of two people using a floaty on the lake near Erie Boulevard and Beach Avenue.

Just before 1:30 p.m., members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton located a white unicorn floaty one-and-a-half miles south of the Long Point Provincial Park wildlife area.

Efforts to locate the two people on the floaty continued into the following day, and after an "extensive search" of the area, no one has been located, police said Wednesday afternoon.

No missing, or outstanding persons reports have been made either.

As a result, officers said they are calling off the search however, the investigation remains ongoing.
