Man facing charge after police officer bitten at east end hotel

London police say a man is facing charges after officers were punched and bitten in the city's east end.

Early Wednesday morning, police went to a motel on Dundas Street East near Clarke Road after being called about property damage.

Witnesses told police a man had damaged a window and vehicles in the area.

As police arrived, a suspect was seen breaking into a room on the second floor of the motel and suffered serious injuries in the process.

The suspect then punched and bit an officer who was trying to apply a tourniquet.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was arrested and then taken to hospital.

A 40-year-old London man faces charges of mischief under $5,000 and assault a peace officer. 

There was approximately $2,900 in damage to the motel and the vehicles.
