Man sexually assaulted near Western University

A London man has been accused of sexual assault following an incident that occurred near Western University on Saturday afternoon.

At around 3:30 p.m., police say a man was seated on a bench on Richmond Street, north of Huron Street, when another man came and sat down beside him. The stranger tried to start a conversation with the man and allegedly sexually assaulted him.

The victim left the area and proceeded to call members of the Western Special Constable Service. The accused was subsequently arrested and members of the London Police Service were then contacted to take over the investigation.

While in London police custody, the suspect reportedly became uncooperative and combative with officers while in the back of the cruiser. He reportedly tried to spit on an officer while he was being transported to police headquarters.

No injuries were reported.

A 36-year-old London man faces charges of sexual assault and assaulting a peace officer.

The accused remains in police custody as of Monday afternoon and will reappear in court on Tuesday.
