Downtown drivers are in for six weeks of slowdowns on Oxford Street East.
Starting Monday, Oxford Street East will see lane restrictions on either side of Quebec Street as city crews continue working on the Quebec Street Infrastructure Renewal Project.
The project has the City of London replacing aging infrastructure on Quebec Street from Oxford to the CPKC rail line. It includes replacing the watermain, sanitary and storm sewers, and the addition of new cycling infrastructure.
If driving in the area during construction, motorists are encouraged to fill both lanes to the point where the lane closure begins, and then "zipper merge" into the open lane.
The City is advising drivers to use alternate routes if possible.
Sidewalk access will be open to pedestrians on at least one side of the intersection while this work is underway.
Construction is only anticipated to last into the fall, though some additional work, including paving, will occur in the spring of 2024.
