St. Thomas police have shut down an illegal magic mushroom shop in the city.
Officers with the street crimes unit raided Fun Guyz at 309 Talbot Street, seizing 7,150 grams of psilocybin on Thursday. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $71,504, police said.
A 39-year-old London man was arrested. He is charged with one count of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He has since been released from police custody with a future court date.
The takedown of the dispensary was in response to community concerns about the open sale of psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, police claimed.
Fun Guyz is a magic mushroom dispensary chain that has opened in multiple cities across southwestern Ontario. Its stores in London and Windsor have previously been raided by local police.
"Psilocybin remains a classified substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act," police reminded in a statement. "The St. Thomas Police Service remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The diligent efforts of our officers have resulted in the successful intervention of illegal psilocybin distribution."
