London pilot killed in plane crash in southern Alberta

A London woman is dead after a small, two-seater plane crashed in southern Alberta.

RCMP confirmed the Cessna 152 went down in a field northeast of the Claresholm airport, approximately 130 kilometres south of Calgary around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The pilot, a 24-year-old London woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person onboard the privately registered aircraft when it went down. The woman's name has not been released.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB). The independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences confirmed it deployed a team of investigators to the crash site on Tuesday.

"The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence," the agency said in a statement.
