Fentanyl seized at London RIDE checkpoint

Provincial police operating a roadside sobriety checkpoint in London ended up stopping more than impaired drivers.

Middlesex OPP officers stopped a vehicle in the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint setup on the Highway 401 off ramp at Wellington Road around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday. Police found $7,800 worth of fentanyl and $7,000 cash inside.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

A 27-year-old Etobicoke resident has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on November 10.
