Ausable and Bayfield River watersheds could see flooding

Minor flooding is expected in parts of the Ausable and Bayfield River watersheds.

Significant rainfall due to a slow-moving weather system has resulted in 75 millimeters of accumulation in some parts of the watersheds over the weekend, with another 5-10 millimeters expected to fall on Sunday.

The heaviest band of precipitation has centred over the municipalities of Bluewater, South Huron, Lucan-Biddulph, and parts of North Middlesex.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) says major flooding is not anticipated, but low-lying floodplain areas are likely to see some minor flooding.

Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses as slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous.

Unless current conditions change, the flood outlook will remain in place until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
