The province's police watchdog is probing the injury of a man who was hurt as London police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle.
A man called police after finding his stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Oxford Street West and Wharncliffe Road North around 3 p.m. on Sunday. An officer arrived at the location and attempted to use a police cruiser to block the stolen car in.
However, the effort failed and the vehicle took off at what police called a "high rate of speed."
A 29-year-old man who was attempting to get into the stolen vehicle right as it sped off fell to the ground. He was taken to hospital with critical, non-life threatening injuries.
The stolen vehicle was later found by police, but there is no word whether a suspect was arrested.
As a result of the 29-year-old man's injury, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified. It has invoked its mandate and has assigned two investigators to look into the incident.
Investigators are asking anyone with information, including video or photos, to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
