St. Thomas police say a person wanted for assault now faces an additional charge of impaired driving after driving to police headquarters while allegedly drunk.
The 40-year-old St. Thomas resident was advised that they were wanted for assault and forcible confinement in connection with an altercation at a south-end home Sunday night. Officers determined the people involved in the fight were known to each other.
Police say the dispute was initially verbal, but escalated into a physical assault.
After learning of the charges, the assault suspect drove to the police station to turn themself in. While the individual was being processed police noticed signs of impairment.
After a sobriety test was administered, the person was charged with impaired driving.
The unnamed St. Thomas resident has been released from custody with a future court date.
