Officers with the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were called to Switzer Drive in Southwest Middlesex around 8:38 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle in the ditch. When they arrived, they arrested the driver and took him to the Lambton County OPP detachment to be tested by a Drug Recognition Expert.

"A search of the vehicle resulted in a loaded firearm, as well as illicit drugs, suspected to be fentanyl, cocaine, and hydromorphone," police said.

A 49-year-old Southwest Middlesex man faces several charges, including drug impaired driving, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused has been held for a bail hearing.
