$200K London house fire caused by electrical problem

An electrical issue was behind a fire that left a north London townhouse with significant damage, the London Fire Department has determined.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at 70 Sunnyside Drive near Masonville Place Saturday afternoon. The fire in the attic of the home was quickly contained and extinguished by firefighters who began their attack from the interior. Once the flames were out, crews moved to the exterior of the home where they continued to douse hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at more than $200,000, fire officials said.

An investigation that followed found the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.

The blaze was one of two weekend fires. The other happened Sunday afternoon inside an attached garage on Heardcreek Trail, southeast of the intersection of Hyde Park Road and Sunningdale Road West. No one was hurt, but the fire caused $20,000 damage. The cause was attributed to lithium Ion batteries inside the garage.
