Students at a northwest London elementary school will be learning from home on Thursday.
The Thames Valley District School Board announced just after 7:30 a.m. University Heights Public School would be closed for the day. The reason is because the school at 27 Ford Crescent has no heat.
"The safety of all students, staff, and community members is a priority and decisions related to school closures are not made lightly," the board said in a statement.
Students will be able to access independent learning activities from their classroom’s digital platform, the board added.
The school's lack of heat comes as the region begins to emerge from a four-day deep-freeze that saw temperatures combined with the wind chill make it feel like close to minus 30 C outside. Thursday is forecast to be a bit warmer, but still below seasonal with a high of minus 5 C. At the time the board made the decision to shutter the school for the day, the temperature combined with the wind chill had it feeling like minus 13 C.
