Oxford OPP lay 52 traffic-related charges in a single day

Bad driver behaviour was allegedly running rampant in Oxford County on Tuesday.

Members of the OPP west region traffic incident management and enforcement team laid 52 traffic-related charges while on patrol in various parts of the county throughout the day. Multiple drivers were stopped for speeding and stunt driving, police said.

Three drivers pulled over were allegedly travelling at speeds ranging from 153 to 191 kilometres an hour in posted 100 kilometres an hour zones. Those three have been charged with stunt driving and had their vehicles impounded.

Other charges laid throughout the day included failing to stop for emergency vehicles, driving without valid permits, and driving without valid insurance.

"The OPP would like to remind motorists that they are patrolling roadways to keep everyone safe," OPP said in a statement. "If everyone does their part to obey the rules of the road there could be a decrease in motor vehicle collisions and charges needing to be issued."

The busy day on the roads also saw Oxford OPP called to a crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, east of Woodstock. A transport truck went into the ditch in Blandford-Blenheim Township around 10:30 p.m. Fuel spilled from the big rig and a lane had to be closed to allow for clean-up. No injuries were reported. The Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Transportation are investigating.
