Charges laid after southwest London standoff

London police say several people are in custody and facing charges after a standoff in the southwest end of the city.

According to police, officers investigating an armed robbery brought a search warrant to a home in the area of Kinnear Crescent and Bartlett Crescent around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. But some of the people in the home refused to come out, which led to a standoff that lasted several hours.

Eventually, several people were taken into custody.

On Wednesday, police announced charges against nine people.

A 48-year-old London man is charged with robbery with violence or threats, armed robbery, use of firearm during commission of an indictable offence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, break enter and theft, and wearing a disguise with intent.

A 31-year-old London woman, a 45-year-old London man, a 42-year-old London woman, and a 30-year-old London man were arrested on previous warrants.

A 38-year-old London woman is charged with failing to comply with a release order.

A 43-year-old London man is charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance and failing to comply with a release order.

Police also say a 33-year-old London man was arrested Wednesday morning at a home in the area of Wharncliffe and Western Roads and charged in connection with the previous armed robbery. The man faces several charges, including robbery with violence of threats, possession of a weapon, and use of a firearm during the commission of an indictable offences.

Police are still looking for another suspect in the armed robbery. Travis Simmonds, 36, of London, is still at large. Police say he is a heavier set White male with short brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately.
