Wrench used in assault in Woodstock

A man who used a wrench to try to stop a person from damaging vehicles in a Woodstock parking lot is among three people charged with assault.

Woodstock police were called about an assault in progress in the area of Devonshire Avenue and Vansittart Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived on scene they determined a 20-year-old had been kicking several vehicles in the parking lot when a 50-year-old armed with a wrench, confronted the alleged vandal and their 19-year-old friend.

The dispute turned into a physical confrontation, police said.

The 50-year-old ended up being taken to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old Woodstock resident is charged with five counts of mischief under $5,000 and one count each of assault, assaulting a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.

A 19-year-old and 50-year-old, both Woodstock residents, are each charged with assault with a weapon.
