Damage is pegged at $100,000 after a house fire in east London.
Firefighters were called to the one-storey home at 1230 Oxford St. E near Highbury Avenue around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Heavy smoke was billowing from the house when crews arrived on scene. They were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.
No injuries were reported.
Working smoke alarms alerted the residents of the home to the fire, which allowed them time to escape safely, fire officials said.
The fire is believed to have been the result of unattended cooking.
"Remember when cooking to always stand by your pan," the London Fire Department advised on social media.
London has seen multiple house fires this week, including two in which people lost their lives. A man died from injuries he suffered in a blaze at an apartment building at 654 King St. on Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday, one person was killed and another seriously hurt in a house fire at 1600 Nairn Ave. Both fires remain under investigation.
