London's home builders have found an additional way to help put roofs over people's heads in the city.
The London Home Builders' Association (LHBA) is holding its annual charity soccer tournament on Friday with all money raised going to the Health and Homelessness Fund for Change.
Sixteen co-ed teams consisting of 12 to 15 players each have registered to play in the tournament at Tricar Field on Colonel Talbot Road. The Tricar Group, Sifton Properties Limited, Lux Homes, Hazelwood Homes, Cardinal Cabinetry Co, Drewlo Holdings Inc., Copp Building Materials Limited, London Riverside Construction Inc., Riverside Concrete Forming, Braxx Railings, XO Homes, MTE Consultants, Great Floors, and Braam’s Custom Cabinets are behind the participating teams. The tournament consists of competitive and recreational pools and will follow a round-robin format, followed by pool semi-final and championship games. Play will follow opening remarks scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
"Last year's event, with a matching donation from The Tricar Group, raised $23,500 for Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)," LHBA said in a statement. "With a doubled in size tournament this year, we hope to exceed this donation for The Fund for Change."
The fund was launched to support measures to combat homelessness in the city. In mid-April, it was announced $4.1 million had been raised through the fund. Should it reach the fundraising goal of $5 million, the anonymous donor, who has already committed $25-million to the cause, would match it.
Friday's tournament is being emceed by Classic Rock 98.1's afternoon show host Craig Needles.
