Toronto man charged in south London bank robbery

Charges have been laid against a Toronto man accused of trying to rob a bank in south London.

A man walked into the Wellington Road financial institution and passed a note to the teller demanding money around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash.

As the man was leaving the bank he allegedly threatened a man.

No injuries were reported.

London police were called and provided a description of the suspect. Officers arrested a man a short distance away.

The stolen money was recovered, police said.

A 38-year-old Toronto man is charged with two counts of robbery with violence or threats and one count each of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon, and public mischief to divert suspicion from self. The man was scheduled to appear in London court on Wednesday.
