One dead, four hurt in Norfolk County crash

A two-vehicle crash northwest of Simcoe killed one person and left four other people seriously hurt.

Emergency crews were called to the collision at the intersection of Windham East Quarter Line Road and Windham Road 9 around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday. A passenger was ejected from one of the vehicles in the crash, Norfolk OPP said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of that individual has not been released.

Two air ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport four other people who were injured to hospital. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed, but police did state that the four were conscious and breathing.

"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected by this tragic event. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues," OPP said in a statement.

The intersection was closed for several hours while the OPP traffic incident management enforcement and reconstruction teams were on scene. It has since reopened.
